Where to begin! My first time to visit Europe and Josh returning to a country he use to call home! We flew into a fairy tale of Dutch land! Taking a few days to explore the City Center we quickly learned some vocabulary that would get us through the week and around the city. While we enjoyed local food, smells of the fresh fruit, meats and breads filled air everywhere we went.
When we arrived the snow was falling as I dreamed it would and the country was coated white for the holiday season. (I think God knew that was what I was wishing for and he really delivered!) It was frigid cold, but to get a real sense of city living we walked everywhere we went!
The best day, we bo
th agreed, was the day we took a tour of southern Bavaria to visit several famous castles of King Ludwig II. My absolute favorite place, most breathtaking in all the world would have to be viewing down on Swan Lake from behind Neuschwanstein Castle. I have never in my life seen such natural beauty! As stories of Kind Ludwig II life was very tragic he surrounded himself with incredibly beautiful nature and tasteful art. When the sun would set we would join our "neighborhood" in the bar downstairs for dinner and drinks... virgin drinks of course for me, while Josh sipped on the local beer. The local people were very friendly and luckily spoke good English, enough to have an entertaining conversation.
Christmas Eve we surprised both our parents with the news that they were going to be Grandparents! Do we wish we could have hand delivered the news, oh yes! But what an exciting memory and Christmas surprise for us to send home!
I could write a book on the Christmas Markets, the food, the site seeing that we were able to soak up while visiting Germany. The pictures don't give the country justice. We are very grateful for being able to share this adventure together and hope to share many more!
