So I have missed out on blogging about our past trips here, so I thought why not share our adventures with everyone! I am not a great writer or even speller for that matter, Mom can vouch for that one! None the less, there are wonderful places on Earth that everyone should get a little taste of!
EVERYONE says, you are new to the area? Oh my goodness, you must go to Skyline Drive! After a little research we figured out it was two hours away in northern Virginia! So we drove to the northern entrance in Front Royal, VA and traveled only 35 miles of the 105 mile park.
You are wondering why on this amazing green earth would we only see 35 miles!! Well, it took us over four hours to travel these gorgeous and most fabulous 35 miles! It is amazing how these small, what I would call villages, thrive on the abundance of tourists who come to see the most beautiful colors of the mountainous landscape. Selling apples from the orchards, wine from the vineyards and homemade goodies such as jams and apple butter, the markets were flooded!
We did not have the pleasure of seeing a bear or even a deer, but hundreds and hundreds of people and cars crowded to watch as the sun lit up the mountains as if there was a wild fire! The yellows, reds, oranges and deep purples of the leaves on the trees as far as you can see was breath taking. As Josh and I would jump out of the car shoot pictures and take off as it was a race, we wanted to see as much as we could on this "peak" day of the fall season.
We plan to visit again, of course in the summer when every
thing is green and the hiking is good! Our goal is to make it to all of the four waterfalls that have homes in this park. What a great place for nature lovers!!
